Over the weekend, Sabrina Ionescu of the WNBA’s New York Liberty made a lot of headlines for her incredible performance in the league’s three-point shootout.

Ionescu not only set a WNBA record with 37 points in the three-point shootout, missing only two shots in the competition, but she also tops any number that has been reached in the NBA’s three-point shootout.

Along with her performance being simply remarkable and something to watch, Ionescu drew the attention of arguably the greatest shooter of all time in Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, who has won the competition twice in his NBA career.

Curry immediately reacted to Ionescu torching the net in the competition this weekend and now has made it a goal to top her record when the three-point shootout rolls around next season, as he told Malika Andrews of ESPN.

With the NBA All-Star Weekend taking a few steps back the last couple of years, Curry may have instantly made it that much more interesting for next season and may have inspired some of his sharpshooting peers to take on the challenge as well.

It’ll be interesting to see if other high-profile three-point shooters throw their hat into the ring for next year’s three-point shootout, as this likely turned the head of Curry’s longtime teammate Klay Thompson.

Regardless of who else competes in the competition next season in the NBA, Ionescu has definitely made an impact that was felt in both leagues, which is great news for the WNBA and basketball in general.
