The Yankees Have Fallen Into Uncharted Territory

The New York Yankees are often widely considered to be a model of consistency.

The team has not missed the postseason since 2016, and doing so is quite rare for the Yanks.

However, they lost a tough game on Monday night against the Los Angeles Angels, losing in walk-off fashion.

The Halos won, 4-3, and with their win they sent the Yankees down to the cellar of the American League East.

New York is now 2-7 in their last nine games.

On Twitter, Bob Nightengale of USA Today pointed out just how bad things have gotten for the Yankees this season, as they now sit in unfamiliar territory.

This is the latest point in a season since 1992 that the Yankees have been in last place.

The Yankees finished that season 76-86 under Buck Showalter, who now manages the New York Mets.

That was also the last time the Yankees finished below the .500 mark.

Fortunately, the Yankees are still five games above the .500 mark and are just 2.5 games back of the third and final Wild Card spot.

However, they’re nine games back of first place and now find themselves in some very unfamiliar territory.

New York won 99 games last season and cruised to their first AL East title since 2019.

They eliminated the Cleveland Guardians in the ALDS before ultimately being swept in the ALCS by the eventual World Series champion Houston Astros, who they’re currently chasing in the Wild Card race.

The Yankees will try to regain their footing soon as the trade deadline approaches.
