New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge has been out since June 3.
He has a torn ligament on his right big toe, a result of a collision against the wall at Dodger Stadium.
It’s the second injured list stint of the season for the 2022 AL MVP, and the Yankees have certainly felt his absence.
Fans and the organization as a whole are eagerly waiting for the day they can have him back.
You could very well say that much of the Yankees’ chances to make the playoffs depend on how soon Judge returns.
After Monday’s crushing loss to the Los Angeles Angels, they are last in the AL East with a 50-45 record.
When will the Yanks have their star back in the lineup?
Well, their manager Aaron Boone provided an update without actually saying much.
“Aaron Boone doesn’t have a return date for Aaron Judge yet but he said multiple times that ‘he’s getting close.’ We mentioned next Tuesday, July 25th against the Mets and he didn’t rule it out,” Talkin’ Yanks tweeted.

That Mets series is a week from now, so it sounds unlikely that Judge runs at full speed, goes on a rehab assignment, and returns in time for it.
If he keeps progressing – he has been performing running drills and doing some light hitting – then August seems like a reasonable goal.
He still has to run the bases at full speed, which seems like the ultimate obstacle at this point given the nature of his injury.
Judge was excellent as usual when on the field, with a .291/.404/.674 line, 19 home runs, 42 runs, 40 RBI, and three stolen bases.
