Mikal Bridges is now a strong leader for the Brooklyn Nets but he spent most of his career with the Phoenix Suns.

Before being traded to Brooklyn last February, the Suns were the only team Bridges ever played for.

And during his time there, he worked with someone he considers one of the greatest basketball players of all time: Chris Paul.

Speaking to Sports Illustrated, Bridges opened up about what makes Paul so special and why he’s in the running for the title of best point guard of all time.

“Just how he sees the game, that’s what makes him a Hall of Famer and one of the best PGs of all time. Just his mindset,” Bridges said.

Bridges said that being able to pick Paul’s brain did so much for his understanding of the game and the way that he plays.

He was able to see things from a different perspective because of the wisdom and expertise that Paul has.

Both Bridges and Paul worked together for several years and were part of the very exciting and promising Suns squad that had championship potential.

Sadly, that potential was never truly capitalized on and they continually fell short of their lofty postseason goals.

Because of that, Bridges was shipped away to the Nets when the Suns made their monster, league-changing Kevin Durant trade.

As for Paul, he only had a few more months in Phoenix too.

Paul was eventually traded away and is now going to make his home with the Golden State Warriors, alongside another master guard, Steph Curry.

Although Bridges is no longer working with Paul, it sounds like the lessons he learned from the 12-time All-Star will have an impact for a very long time.
