Over the past couple of weeks, there’s been an ongoing debate about whether the Los Angeles Lakers should make a statue of LeBron James when he’s done playing the game.

Some believe he’s done more than enough to be granted that honor, while others realize that even though he hasn’t been at his best with the Lakers, he still deserves that honor because of his overall legacy.

There’s a third wing of people who simply don’t think he should get a statue by the Lakers because he achieved most of his milestones with other teams.

That’s the case with sports analyst Craig Carton, who recently said on his show that there’s no way the Lakers should build him a statue over a “fugazi championship.”

Does LeBron James deserve a statue from the Lakers?

“The notion of LeBron James getting a statue is a joke. The majority of his points aren’t in LA and he’s got a fugazi championship in LA.” — @craigcartonlive pic.twitter.com/XkpyafG8J0

Truth be told, it is true that James is one of the greatest — if not the greatest — players in league history, and as such, he should get as many tributes as possible.

However, the Lakers are tied as the winningest franchise in NBA history, and it used to take way more than just one championship to get your jersey retired, let alone get a statue.

James’ tenure with the Lakers has been mostly a failure outside of that championship in the bubble, and while he’s not to blame for that, he may have not done enough to be granted that honor, either.

He did become the league’s all-time leading scorer while donning the Purple and Gold, but he scored most of those points playing for other franchises.
