The St. Louis Cardinals once again find themselves dealing with an outfield logjam.
Tyler O’Neill, who has been on the injured list since early May, will soon be back from his rehab assignment.
As a result, Dylan Carlson will be out of the team’s shuffle and relegated to the bench, as the Cardinals have made it clear that O’Neill will be given the starting left field job upon his return.
This means a trade is possible for Carlson.
After Monday’s win over the Miami Marlins, Carlson stated that he wasn’t given a fair shot.
Nolan Arenado also spoke on the matter, expressing his support for Carlson and sticking up for his Cardinals teammate.
John Denton of MLB.com tweeted what Arenado had to say.
#STLCards star Nolan Arenado on center fielder Dylan Carlson, who was near tears on Monday at the thought of getting traded or moved out of the OF rotation: “D.C.’s not a complainer. He just shows up and works and competes and that’s why we love him.”https://t.co/vTzIxuL12p

Arenado said that he understands what Carlson is feeling at the moment.
With the Cardinals having so many outfielders and so few spots, Carlson could be on the move at the trade deadline, which is now just two weeks away.
Arenado even said that he knows Carlson doesn’t complain for no reason, and he praised his teammate and friend for working hard every day and competing.
The All-Star third baseman stated that this is why Carlson is so popular among his teammates.
The switch-hitting outfielder ultimately finds himself in an unfortunate position.
He has performed quite well for the Cardinals this season and has been more consistent than in the past.
However, the team was quick to declare O’Neill the starter in left field, which may make Carlson expendable.
