The Chicago Bears have not made the playoffs since 2020, and have only reached the postseason twice in the last 10 years.

Despite having a consistently solid defense, the Bears offense has been a main cause for concern.

However, Justin Field was drafted for a reason, and many believe that he is due for a massive third season.

The Bears are the only team in NFL history to never have a quarterback throw for 4,000+ yards.

In a recent interview with the All Things Covered podcast via the NFL on CBS, Fields declared to break that record this year.

The @ChicagoBears have NEVER had a passer throw for 4,000 yards in a single season.

Just how realistic is that goal for Fields?

In his second NFL season, Fields threw for 2,242 yards, with a completion percentage of 60.4%.

While this statistic might indicate that this feat is unlikely, even impossible for Fields, it doesn’t tell the entire story.

Fields may have only thrown for just north of 2,000 yards last season, but he did rush for an additional 1,143.

He was given more designed runs than the average quarterback, and as a result, his passing totals suffered.

Another factor in his 2022 stats was the Bears’ passing totals.

They threw the ball less than anyone in the NFL last season, which is bound to change in 2023.

Luke Getsy is the Bears’ offensive coordinator, who was formerly in charge of Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers.

If the Bears rely heavier on the passing game, and Fields takes the step forward that many are expecting, there’s no telling what his ceiling could be moving forward.
