From the start of the season until June, there was something wrong with Milwaukee Brewers ace Corbin Burnes.
He wasn’t bad, but wasn’t the frontline starter we were all used to watching either.
From Opening Day until the end of June, he had a 4.10 ERA in 94.1 innings.
His stuff remained more or less the same, but his command was a bit off.
In MLB, pitchers usually pay for it when that’s the case.
However, since the calendar turned to July, Burnes appears to be back to his Cy Young-caliber form.
“Corbin Burnes in July… 4 GS, 27 IP, 1.33 ERA, 0.63 WHIP, 2.43 FIP, 2.91 xFIP, 3.00 SIERA, 9.1% BB, 36.4% K, .092 BAA, 13.8% SwStr. Only 1 BRL allowed. He’s back,” fantasy analyst Eric Cross tweeted.

That’s more like it!
It’s just a four-start sample, but he looks like his old self.
In fact, he looks like the pitcher that deserved the Cy Young award in 2020 and won it in 2021.
Perhaps not coincidentally, the Brewers have taken over first place in the NL Central by surpassing the exciting Cincinnati Reds.
The two teams will probably be fighting for the top for the remainder of the season, but one thing is clear: Cincinnati might have more talent in the position player department, but Milwaukee has the best and most accomplished pitcher in Burnes.
For the season, the right-hander is now sporting a 3.49 ERA in 121.1 innings.
That number will probably keep coming down with the way he is pitching at the moment.
Burnes might not stay in Milwaukee for the long haul, but he gives them a true ace every time he steps on the mound.
