The Milwaukee Bucks had the best record in the NBA last season, yet they could only win one game in the playoffs.
And while the Miami Heat obviously deserve a lot of credit for that, Giannis Antetokounmpo happened to miss most of that series with an injury.
Giannis has established himself as one of the biggest names in the Association, and he has a strong case to go down as the greatest player in franchise history, even ahead of Lew Alcindor (Kareem Adbul-Jabbar).
That’s why former NBA champion Kendrick Perkins believes Giannis is having a similar effect in Milwaukee as LeBron James had when he went back to Cleveland.
Perkins explained that the organization is building everything around him, with even a new arena coming, and the restaurants are open to watch the Bucks play and people are getting employed because of Giannis’ presence and impact within the organization.
Perkins also believes the Bucks will bounce back in a big way after a disappointing end to last season, citing that the only concern will be whether they’re healthy at the right time.
The Bucks’ championship core is still together, and they have a new coach that could be a breath of fresh air from the Mike Budenholzer era and his stubbornness about playoff adjustments.
People often forget about small-market teams like them, but they’ll be perennial championship contenders for as long as they have Antetokounmpo locked, loaded, and fully healthy on the floor.
