For years, the Los Angeles Rams’ Aaron Donald has been considered arguably the best defensive tackle in the NFL.

It’s no wonder why, as he has made the Pro Bowl in each of his nine pro seasons, as well as seven consecutive All-Pro First Teams.

But there may be someone coming for his throne — the New York Jets‘ Quinnen Williams.

Jets defensive end John Franklin-Myers says Williams will surpass Donald as the best defensive tackle in the game either this season or next thanks to his unique abilities.

Williams had a breakout campaign in 2022 with 12.0 sacks, which nearly doubled his previous career high, plus 28 quarterback hits, earning him Pro Bowl and All-Pro First Team honors for the first time.

At age 25, his best years should still be ahead of him, and he should still have a bit of room for improvement.

He was a big reason why the Jets finished fourth in both points and total yards allowed last season, and that defense should still be their strength this fall and winter, despite the headline-grabbing addition of future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

They also brought along wide receivers Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb to ease Rodgers’ transition, not to mention boost their wide receiver room.

But head coach Robert Saleh is a former defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers, and there is no doubt he wants New York to win with defense.

As a result, they could end up having their best shot at winning the Super Bowl since the 1968 campaign — the last time they won it or even got that far.
