After superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts signed lucrative contract extensions with their respective teams earlier in the NFL offseason, the clock started ticking for the Cincinnati Bengals with Joe Burrow and the Los Angeles Chargers with Justin Herbert to get their quarterbacks paid.
Obviously, the first superstar of these two to sign the deal with reset the market again for the position, meaning the next one up will almost certainly make more with their deal.
That said, it could be a waiting game with no rush from either side as training camps start to get underway for every team in the league.
On Sunday, Burrow was seen walking into training camp for the Bengals with ongoing contract talks. The former Heisman Trophy winner is set to become a very wealthy man sooner rather than later via Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

With the Bengals especially, Burrow will be worth every penny of the contract he eventually signs, as he has proven his worth over the course of his first three seasons with a Super Bowl appearance already during that time, along with plenty of playoff success.
As for Herbert, the Chargers are an incredibly talented team with an elite quarterback leading the charge, but Herbert hasn’t been able to get them over the hump in the NFL playoffs.
Despite the fact that Burrow is arguably the better player of the two, this scenario could play out whether Herbert ends up signing second and, as a result, becomes the highest-paid player in the NFL.
