Earlier on Wednesday, MLB insider Bob Nightengale reported that the Tampa Bay Rays were in serious talks with the Chicago White Sox over right-hander Lance Lynn.

While Lynn has had a tough season, he remains a viable strikeout pitcher and was of interest to the Rays.

However, this isn’t anything new, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Sherman posted on Twitter that the Rays have been interested in Lynn for quite some time and have been in talks with the White Sox for several weeks.

Lynn has a no-trade list of 10 teams which includes the Rays, but Sherman notes that he is willing to waive that to play for a contending team.

Rays/White Sox have talked about Lance Lynn for several weeks. @BNightengale reports talks have intensified. Rays are on Lynn’s 10-team no-trade list. But word is Lynn wants to get to a contender. He’s owed about $6.7M rest of this yr, has an $18M 2024 option with $1M buyout

The deal is not yet official, and it is unknown what the White Sox may receive in return for Lynn.

The 36-year-old has prioritized playing with a contending team down the stretch.

The White Sox are well out of contention, but the Rays are only 1.5 games back of first place in the American League East and are looking to make a run into October this year.

The Rays own a record of 62-42.

But despite the fact that Lynn has the Rays on his 10-team no-trade list, it appears that the veteran right-hander is willing to make an exception and ultimately pitch in Tampa Bay, as the Rays are a contending ballclub.

The official trade deadline is now less than a week away, and if and when this move is completed, the market will likely begin to heat up as more teams begin to deal.
