With training camp opening up for the Los Angeles Chargers, their star quarterback Justin Herbert secured the bag of a lifetime.
The franchise gave him a five-year contract extension that is worth $262.5 million, and hardly anyone thinks it’s excessive, at least relative to the other contracts that have been handed out across the NFL lately.
Another young and talented AFC quarterback by the name of Joe Burrow is also up for a contract extension, and he is reportedly in negotiations with the Cincinnati Bengals to land one.
Herbert gave Burrow a ringing endorsement while saying that he’s “rooting for him and pulling for him,” according to reporter Tyler Dragon.
Justin Herbert on Joe Burrow’s current contract negotiations: “I’m rooting for Joe. He’s done such a fantastic job playing football. I have so much respect for him as a quarterback. I know he’s a competitor. He’s earned every penny. I’m rooting for him and pulling for him.”

If Herbert isn’t an elite quarterback, he’s close, and his throwing arm is about as powerful as any seen in the league before.
His numbers were down a bit last year, but he still threw for 4,739 yards and 25 touchdowns while completing 68.2 percent of his pass attempts despite dealing with a painful rib injury for most of the season.
With new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore and speedy wide receiver Quentin Johnston, who was a first-round draft pick, the hope is that Herbert’s arm will actually function like a rocket launcher rather than a peashooter.
Meanwhile, Burrow has been very productive, not to mention cool and steady, over the last couple of seasons, which has earned him comparisons to Tom Brady and Joe Montana, probably the two greatest signal-callers ever.
He has taken the Bengals from the basement to Super Bowl contention, and fans are hoping he will lead the team to its first world championship this season.
