Magic Johnson Sets Championship Expectations For Lakers Next Season

Technically, the postseason ended in disappointment for the Los Angeles Lakers because they didn’t make it to the NBA Finals.

Still, many fans walked away feeling happy with what they saw, and very optimistic for the future.

Magic Johnson is one of those fans who anticipates great things for his team.

According to the LA Times, via Laker Wire, Johnson believes the team could definitely make the Finals next year.

“This is a Western Conference championship team. We could actually win everything if we can stay healthy. This team has a real shot,” Johnson said.

Loyal followers of the team were both surprised and elated by what they saw in the second half of the season.

When 2022-23 began, the Lakers were in a bad spot.

They had a 2-10 record and things appeared to be dismal.

Even making the play-in games seemed out of reach.

But the front office did a lot of work at the trade deadline.

Additionally, the players on the team worked hard to get on track too.

In the end, the Lakers were able to put together a series of strong wins and some impressive victories in the playoffs.

It wasn’t just because of LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

Others like Rui Hachimura, Lonnie Walker, Austin Reaves, and others contributed a lot.

So while the team didn’t make the Finals, they have set themselves up for big things in the near future.

Of course, this could all change with injuries, something that Johnson alluded to.

But right now, fans of the team are thinking that the upcoming season could build upon the success the Lakers just saw.
