Last season, the Denver Broncos were expected to be legitimate Super Bowl contenders after trading for future Hall of Fame quarterback Russell Wilson.

But the campaign instead devolved into an unmitigated disaster for them, and they ended up winning just five games and missing the playoffs.

Much of the blame fell on the shoulders of Wilson, who had by far the worst season of his stellar career.

But Sean Payton has taken over as Denver’s new head coach, and he has publicly stated his belief that Wilson will regain his old form.

According to James Palmer, the 34-year-old may look to move the chains with his legs more often this season after losing some weight.

A trimmed down Russell Wilson hinted that we are going to see him move around more this season and use his legs more frequently. Sean Payton is encouraging it during camp. Payton believes it’s still a strength of Wilson’s and good things happen when he does it.

There is a sentiment around the NFL that teams cannot win a Super Bowl with a dual-threat QB, but Wilson is the exception to that rule.

He led the Seattle Seahawks to the world championship in 2013 in just his second season in the league, and during the regular season that year, he ran for 539 yards.

Last season, he was at 277 rushing yards, and the year before that, he mustered only 183 yards on the ground.

The Broncos don’t have a top-flight running back, so Wilson picking up the slack in their rushing attack sounds like a good idea.

However, he will have to do much better in terms of throwing the football for them to have a shot at doing anything of note.

In 2022, he completed just 60.5 percent of his passes and threw for 16 touchdowns, both of which were career lows.
