The running back position in the NFL has been a main news topic throughout the offseason.

Marquee players at the position haven’t been extended, which has caused a significant public outcry, clamoring for a change.

Jonathan Taylor is entering his fourth NFL season and was expecting to get a contract extension from the Indianapolis Colts ahead of the 2023 campaign.

It appears that the team isn’t willing to do that now, and he publically requested a trade.

After this news broke, Colts GM Jim Irsay shared a brief message.

According to Ian Rappoport via Albert Breer, “We’re not trading Jonathan.. end of discussion.” he said.

He also reportedly said, “Not now and not in October!”

Taylor has been a massive piece of the Colts’ offense since he was drafted in 2020.

He led the league in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns in 2021, racking up 1,811 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Despite solid on-field production in 2022, Taylor missed six games due to an ankle injury.

This could cause trepidation from the team moving forward, yet another example of an organization not wanting to pay its top back.

How will this situation resolve?

Taylor is unhappy with how he’s being treated, both by Irsay and the organization as a whole.

When this level of unhappiness presents itself, it can be difficult for a player to continue to get excited about playing for a team.

Josh Jacobs is experiencing a similar phenomenon from the Las Vegas Raiders, and due to this issue, he hasn’t attended training camp.

Colts fans anxiously await what’s next with Taylor, hoping for a different negotiation result.
