The trade deadline is just hours away.
Normally buyers at this time of year, the St. Louis Cardinals are operating from a different angle at this deadline, having already begun to sell.
They traded Jordan Hicks to the Toronto Blue Jays and shipped both Jordan Montgomery and Chris Stratton to the Texas Rangers.
However, that doesn’t mean they aren’t still active in trade discussions.
According to MLB Network insider Jon Morosi, the Cards have been very active in trade discussions in recent days.
Morosi notes that the team is fielding calls on Alec Burleson, Dylan Carlson, and Paul DeJong.
In addition, Morosi notes that Tommy Edman could be a trade candidate.
Cardinals have been active in trade conversations last night and this morning. They’re willing to move multiple bats.
Most frequent names mentioned: Paul DeJong, Alec Burleson and Dylan Carlson.
Trade status of Tommy Edman, on the IL with right wrist inflammation, is unclear.

Edman is set to come off the injured list later today before the Cards take on the Minnesota Twins.
But these four bats are interesting trade candidates.
Morosi notes that Burleson, Carlson, and DeJong are the names that have popped up the most in recent trade conversations.
DeJong is on an expiring contract, and the Cardinals don’t appear to have any interest in parting ways with Nolan Gorman or Brendan Donovan.
However, Carlson and Burleson are both cost-controlled players that contending teams may want as they search for outfield depth.
St. Louis is in desperate need of pitching to fill out their rotation for 2024.
Only Miles Mikolas and Steven Matz are under contract for next season.
Jack Flaherty is expected to be traded, and Adam Wainwright will be retiring at season’s end.
The next few hours will certainly be interesting to watch as the deadline looms.
