The Kansas City Chiefs signed Patrick Mahomes to a historically large deal, making almost every other deal in professional sports look like a bargain.
The Texas Tech product got a whopping $45 million a year throughout the course of a decade, obviously making him the highest-paid player in the league.
But that’s no longer the case, as he’s dropped down the list in that regard ever since.
However, he recently told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated that he’s looking to take a page out of Tom Brady’s book in regards to finding the balance between getting paid fairly according to the market while also not taking that much money away from the team, so they can continue surrounding him with elite talents (via Dov Kleiman).
#Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes revealed he’s “Trying to find a balance” between getting paid fairly while still not taking too much money away from the team, the way @TomBrady did it.

Notably, the Chiefs did a superb job of putting together that Super Bowl-winning team last season, featuring plenty of rookies and not-so-known players.
That strategy sure paid off big time for the most part of Brady’s career, as he won six rings with the New England Patriots and was rarely among the league’s highest-earners despite being a consensus top-3 quarterback year in and year out.
There’s no denying that Mahomes sits on a tier of his own when compared to the rest of NFL quarterbacks right now.
But as much as he should be the highest-earner in the league, he’s still making generational wealth while allowing the team to put more pieces next to him.
Mahomes is expected to reset the quarterback market again once Joe Burrow gets his payday, but don’t be shocked if he doesn’t take as much money as he could.
