As training camp for the upcoming NFL season moves on, the Dallas Cowboys are gearing up for what they hope will be a run at a Super Bowl championship.

They have two notable additions this year: wide receiver Brandin Cooks and star cornerback Stephon Gilmore, and both are joining a team that was already among the league’s most talented.

But ultimately, how they do, especially when it matters most, will depend on the play of quarterback Dak Prescott.

During a scrimmage, Prescott was prevented from getting off a pass, and he and corner Trevon Diggs got into it.

Prescott has been the Cowboys’ starting quarterback since his rookie season in 2016 when incumbent starter Tony Romo got injured.

He had a dazzling rookie campaign during which he threw for 23 touchdowns against just four interceptions and led Dallas to a 13-3 record, which earned him the Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

But Prescott has been criticized for his poor play in big games, and last season, his production took a nosedive.

He led the NFL with 15 interceptions, and his 91.1 passer rating was his lowest since his second pro season.

The Cowboys have had some very good teams, at least on paper, during Prescott’s tenure with them, but during that time they haven’t reached the NFC Championship Game.

They may have the most talented team that they have had since they last won the Super Bowl in the 1995 season, but all that talent likely won’t matter much unless he raises his game and consistently plays like a Pro Bowler.
