After 10 years in the St. Louis Cardinals organization, right-hander Jack Flaherty is set for the next chapter of his career with the Baltimore Orioles.
Baltimore landed Flaherty in a deal with the Cardinals at the trade deadline, and Flaherty is now set to help pitch the Orioles into the postseason for the first time since 2016.
The young right-hander now gets a fresh start with a contending team and a chance to compete for a World Series title.
On Wednesday, Flaherty had his first media session as a member of the Orioles, and commented on what it was like to be given a fresh start with a new team, via Andy Kostka.
Jack Flaherty, the newest Oriole: “It’s exciting to be on a good team. It’s exciting to be on a team that’s in it. There was a lot of promise in St. Louis; things didn’t work out. Sometimes that’s the way it goes. You can’t do much about it, and now it’s about moving forward.” pic.twitter.com/AEMf1SlB5p

The young right-hander said that it was ultimately exciting for him to be a part of a contending ballclub.
He acknowledged that there was a lot of promise in St. Louis and that the Cardinals had plenty of success while he was there, but that it didn’t work out this year.
Flaherty said he understood that sometimes, things don’t work out and that there isn’t much he can do about it.
However, the right-hander says he is ready to move forward and do whatever he can to help pitch the Orioles into October.
The O’s own a record of 66-42, which is the best in the American League.
Flaherty joins a rotation that features Grayson Rodriguez, Dean Kramer, and Kyle Bradish.
He’ll make his Orioles debut on Thursday afternoon as the team wraps up a series against the Toronto Blue Jays.
He comes into this start with a 7-6 record and an ERA of 4.43.
