Heading into Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins, the St. Louis Cardinals had a record of 47-61 and had lost four of their last five games.

However, the team got a solid start out of right-hander Dakota Hudson, who took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and made it through seven strong frames in the second game of the series.

Hudson allowed three runs on just two hits in his seven innings of work, striking out seven batters and walking three.

As a result, the young right-hander earned his second win of the season.

On Twitter, the Cardinals posted a cool graphic featuring the 28-year-old’s line from Wednesday night.

The Cardinals were sellers at the trade deadline this year, trading away assets on expiring contracts.

With Jordan Montgomery and Jack Flaherty both gone, Hudson was given a chance to compete in the rotation as the Cards turned their attention to 2024.

In his first start since June 19, Hudson was nothing short of impressive.

Normally a ground-ball pitcher, Hudson benefitted from strikeouts in Wednesday’s win.

Because the Cardinals did not add any MLB-ready starters at the deadline, Hudson will likely have more chances to re-establish himself as a viable arm in the St. Louis rotation, as he has been for most of his career.

He lowered his ERA to 4.10 on the season with his dominant outing against the Twins.

This is certainly an encouraging sign for the Cardinals as they assess their internal options and determine what their team will look like in 2024.
