The Chicago Cubs’ offense has been firing on all cylinders ever since the All-Star break.
The unit has carried the team to a positive streak and a strategy change prior to the deadline: previously projected to be sellers, they became buyers and added, among others, third baseman Jeimer Candelario.
The Cubs opened Friday with a 56-53 record, which fell to 56-54 after their afternoon loss to the Atlanta Braves.
They are currently just three games out of first place in the NL Central, an amazing spot as the franchise fights to return to the postseason.
They owe a lot of that recent success to the offense.
Despite being shut out on Friday by a formidable pitcher in Max Fried, the Cubs have scored 150 runs since the break.
That’s top in MLB, according to the league itself.
There’s no place like home (plate).

The second-ranked team since that timeframe is the Los Angeles Dodgers, and they are far away with 109 runs.
This week, Chicago even scored 36 runs in a span of two games against the Cincinnati Reds.
Every major piece of the lineup, or most of them, are currently hot at the plate.
Candelario came out firing, Cody Bellinger has been amazing in July, Dansby Swanson had a two-homer game this week, Christopher Morel has contributed a lot, Ian Happ, Mike Tauchman, Nico Hoerner… you name a Cubs hitter, and he’s probably in his best streak of the season.
The Cubs are good enough to overtake the Milwaukee Brewers and the Reds and take the NL Central.
There is still a lot of baseball to play, though, and anything can happen.
