The Chicago Cubs have come out of nowhere and are now playing some of their best baseball of the season.
They were originally expected to be sellers at the trade deadline.
However, they got hot and are now just 1.5 games back of first place in the NL Central.
They pulled into a tie for the third Wild Card spot with the Cincinnati Reds with their win on Sunday.
With less than two months to go in the regular season, the Cubs are red-hot and close to catching the Milwaukee Brewers.
On Monday, Cubs reporter Taylor McGregor stopped by MLB Network and discussed the team’s resurgence, as well as what has been the driving force on this run.

McGregor discussed the bullpen and offense of the Cubs and how both have been carrying the team as of late.
At the beginning of the year, there was a lot of uncertainty with Chicago’s bullpen and who would fill certain roles.
McGregor notes that at the time, the Cubs didn’t have any left-handed relievers.
However, in the last 13 games, the bullpen has performed very well.
In those games, they own a 2.35 ERA and have held opponents to a .174 batting average.
They have also posted a WHIP of 0.95, a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 3.2, and have only allowed 54 baserunners.
On the offensive side, Cody Bellinger has 17 extra-base hits in his last 36 games and has only struck out 14 times.
Things may be looking up for the North Siders as they prepare for the stretch run of the 2023 season.
