Udonis Haslem spent 20 years in the NBA and played with the Miami Heat each season.

But just because his career as a basketball player has come to an end doesn’t mean that Haslem is done with professional sports or the city of Miami.

On Twitter, Haslem announced that he is now the owner of the city’s jai alai team, the Rebote Renegades.

Here is part of Haslem’s statement announcing the deal:

“Honored to be a part of a sport with deep-rooted history, especially right here in my city and to me personally through memories of my dad. And y’all know I’m competitive so I’m gonna make sure the Renegades are out here putting in work!!”

New chapter means a new venture as a @JaiAlaiLeague team owner. Honored to be part of a sport with deep-rooted history here in my city and to me personally through memories of my dad. Excited to be doing it for Miami, for the players and for the fans around the world. #OG pic.twitter.com/45lbWij0Tq

For those who don’t follow the sport, the Renegades are a successful team in the World Jai-Alai League.

That means that Haslem is moving from one of the most popular teams in basketball to one of the most popular teams in a new sport.

This move takes place just months after he retired from the NBA.

He didn’t play much in his last few seasons and only appeared in seven games in his final year.

During those games, he averaged only 3.9 points.

But during the height of his career in the mid-2000s, Haslem was averaging nearly a double-double.

Over the years, the big man transitioned from an asset on the court to a man who fired up his team and motivated them on the bench.

He will take the skills he learned as a player-coach and now bring them to the Renegades.

Although running the Renegades will take up a lot of his time, Haslem will still be involved with the Heat as well.

He might be retired but he still holds the team very close to his heart and wants to help them find more success.
