Shortly after the 2022 NFL season came to an end with the Kansas City Chiefs getting the best of the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl, superstar quarterback Tom Brady of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers finally decided to retire.

Although there were many rumors floating around about where Brady might land in 2023, as many believed he’d continue playing for another franchise other than the Buccaneers, he admitted that he has had enough and was ready to embrace retirement after arguably the most successful career in NFL history.

With Brady choosing to call it a career, the Buccaneers were put in the difficult position to replace the irreplaceable at the quarterback position, which led to the signing of veteran Baker Mayfield.

Although it initially seemed like Mayfield immediately got the starting job in Tampa Bay, that appears not to be the case, with the veteran heading into a quarterback competition with 25-year-old Kyle Trask.

According to insider Dov Kleiman, Mayfield will start the first preseason game for the Bucs against the Pittsburgh Steelers, while Trask will get his shot a week later against the New York Jets.

Clearly, Mayfield hasn’t shown enough to the coaching staff in Tampa Bay to prove he is the right man for the job under center when the regular season gets underway in September on the road against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1.

After sitting behind Brady, Trask has the ideal situation to show he has what it takes to be a starter in this league, as he will be given the opportunity to win the job over Mayfield during training camp and preseason, which could get interesting over the next few weeks.
