The Baltimore Orioles are currently finding themselves in the news for all the wrong reasons.

Recently, Kevin Brown, one of the team’s play-by-play television announcers, was suspended after he had mentioned that until this year, the Orioles had struggled mightily at Tropicana Field against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The decision to suspend Brown was met with an outrage from fans and media members.

New York Yankees TV announcer Michael Kay weighed in on the subject and why he thinks the Orioles have made the wrong decision to suspend Brown for his comments and why it’s a bad look for the organization, via Awful Announcing.

Kay noted that what Brown had said was prepared an hour in advance before it appeared on a graphic while the announcer was making his notes.

Brown of course had no control over what was written on the graphic and that if Brown was going to be suspended, they might as well suspend the entire PR team along with him.

Kay called out Orioles owner John Angelos, referring to him as “thin-skinned” and “unreasonable.”

He even suggested that Angelos should get a call from MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred.

The Yankees announcer continued to defend Brown and stated that the young Orioles announcer had done nothing wrong, stating that this incident makes the Orioles look small and insignificant and that they not only embarrassed Brown, but had also embarrassed themselves in the process.

Kay closed out his statement by saying that fans should be grateful when announcers are critical of the team, but also pointed out that Brown was not being critical, but rather complimentary.
