Just a small percentage of manager ejections in MLB are because they are truly upset about something.

In the vast majority of cases, when they are tossed it’s because they are trying to light a fire under their teams or standing up for one of their players.

It’s one of baseball codes: managers have to have their players’ backs.

We would assume that’s what happened between New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone and chief umpire Laz Diaz on Monday.

Boone appeared extremely frustrated about two missed strike calls from Diaz and made sure the umpire heard his rant.

Boone even imitated Diaz’s “technique” to call strikes in one of the craziest rants of the season.

The Yankees ended up losing the game and keep drifting away from the postseason spots.

They are last in the AL East and 5.5 games behind the last Wild Card spot, held by the Toronto Blue Jays.

That’s why Boone is so frustrated and eager to get his players to wake up.

It was Boone’s sixth ejection of the season, tied with David Bell of the Cincinnati Reds for most in MLB this year.

Boone also led the league with nine ejections last year and was first in the American League in 2021, with six.

It’s nothing new for him.

This time, however, he put together quite a performance.

Meanwhile, the Yankees lost to the lowly Chicago White Sox with a few controversial calls from Diaz.

It’s fair to say Boone is not a fan of Diaz these days.
