What will next season look like for the Los Angeles Lakers?
This is a question that every LA fan has been asking recently, especially after the team surprised everyone by getting its act together after the trade deadline and fighting all the way until the Western Conference Finals.
When asked by Sports Illustrated if he thinks the Lakers are a championship-level team next season, shooting guard Austin Reaves said he does.
He then added that he is ecstatic to get to work with the returning stars and the new players.
“I’m super excited with what we brought back and then what we got after that,” Reaves said, commenting on their busy free agency.
Reaves said that even though the Lakers weren’t able to make the championship this year, they fought hard during every game of the postseason.
He argues that they have a good thing going with their current core and that the new additions – such as Gabe Vincent and Jaxson Hayes – will only help them grow stronger.
This is the hope of many LA fans but there are some concerns too.
Injuries seem to regularly plague the Lakers and there is fear that if LeBron James and Anthony Davis go down, the team could suffer again.
And there is also worry that the young players who shined so brightly last season might not do it again this year.
Was 2022-23 just a fluke?
Reaves and the rest of the team don’t think that is something to be worried about.
They believe that last season was just the beginning of this new chapter in Lakers history.
Reaves claims his team is ready to win it all.
He will try to prove that in 2023-24.
