The Philadelphia 76ers are coming off a season in which the storied franchise failed to live up to expectations in the NBA playoffs once again, as they fell to the Boston Celtics in six games in the second round.
After getting knocked out of the playoffs, the 76ers headed into the offseason needing to know what superstar guard James Harden intended to do, and it didn’t take long for him to opt into the final year of his contract and immediately request to be traded elsewhere.
Currently, the team is looking for the right trade package in return for Harden, and all signs point to a deal eventually getting done with the Los Angeles Clippers, where the veteran guard has let it be known he wants to end up.
The 76ers front office wants to get value in return for Harden, with the expectation being that the team will still be able to contend next season with reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid leading the way.
However, Kendrick Perkins of ESPN believes the Philadelphia franchise has become a reality show and that next season could be when it all falls apart.
Unfortunately for Embiid, the 76ers have become somewhat of a reality show as the team hasn’t been able to figure out how to put the talent around the superstar center in order to get them where they want to go.
Embiid has only improved with every passing season, and Perkins believes the veteran center should be sick and tired of what is going on in Philadelphia if they can’t put it together during the 2023-24 NBA season.
All indications point to the upcoming season being make-or-break for the 76ers, as Embiid could take the same route as Harden next summer or before the NBA trade deadline if things don’t start to look up in Philadelphia.
