The Detroit Lions finished the 2022 regular season with a 9-8 record, narrowly missing the playoffs.
They were one of the most surprising teams in the league last year, especially given their offensive output.
Heading into 2023, many gave them a fighting chance to win the NFC North given their momentum and the recent departure of Aaron Rodgers.
After their first preseason game, Peter Schrager added to the team’s hype, highlighting a few key players.
Schrager called out three players, saying “I thought Gibbs, Branch, and Jack Campbell were awesome in their preseason debuts” via ‘Good Morning Football.’
“The @Lions finished last season hotter than any team in the league. And then they added this loaded rookie class. I thought Gibbs, Branch, and Jack Campbell were awesome in their preseason debuts.”

Jahmyr Gibbs was a surprising pick by the Lions, going 12th overall.
He was a highly-touted running back prospect, but many expected him to go in the second round.
In his preseason debut, Gibbs averaged 3.2 yards per carry, getting just six chances during the game.
He also had one reception for 18 yards, which generated a lot of buzz around him.
Having a running back that can also catch passes effectively is a great asset, something that Schrager is excited about.
Jack Campbell was also a first-round pick this year.
While he didn’t see a lot of playing time in this game, he did have two individual tackles, adding two assists.
This gave Schrager hope, as he believes Campbell will have a great year-one impact.
The same goes for second-rounder Brian Branch, who had three tackles.
Although the Lions had one of the league’s worst defenses last season, can they turn things around in 2023 with their new additions in mind?
