The New England Patriots didn’t get off to the most promising start to the preseason.

Their offensive line looked terrible vs. the Houston Texans, and that’s a lot to say.

Head coach Bill Belichick expressed his concerns about this unit following the game, and insiders Greg Bedard and Albert Breer recently took to NBC Sports Boston to discuss the team’s biggest issue going forward.

The reality of the matter is that the Patriots won’t be able to compete with their offensive line playing this way.

Even though Mac Jones should fare better now that he’s been reunited with Bill O’Brien and will have an actual offensive coordinator calling the plays instead of Matt Patricia, he’s not the most mobile or fastest guy in the league, and rival defenses will keep him on his toes on every single drop-back.

The Patriots are coming off a dreadful year offensively, and they didn’t do a lot in the offseason to solve their woes.

Team owner Robert Kraft has made it clear that he won’t hesitate to show Belichick the door if the team doesn’t go back to its winning ways this season.

And judging by what we saw against the Texans and via the reports from training camp, it seems like the Belichick era in town could come to an end sooner rather than later.

As to whether Jones will be able to outlast his coach, that’s a whole different story, but we’ll have to wait and see.
