It seems like one of the New York Giants’ offseason additions might not be at their best to begin the season.

According to HC Brian Daboll, wide receiver Cole Beasley is dealing with a leg injury, and he just missed his second consecutive practice because of that (via Pat Leonard).

This comes right after he had a somewhat unexpected big workload in the team’s preseason opener.

He had four receptions in the first quarter alone, meaning he could be legitimately in the mix to get a roster spot, even despite being 34 years old already.

Beasley has had a long and successful career in the league, and he’s proved himself over and over as an efficient volume pass-catcher, and even though he’s never been the fastest or the most athletic, he’s always had a reliable pair of hands.

As of now, the Giants are pretty stacked in the wide receiver room, with Parris Campbell, Isaiah Hodgins, Darius Slayton, Sterling Sheppard, Jalin Hyatt, and Wan’Dale Robinson, so Beasley might have a tough time cracking the roster.

Also, we already know that the Giants will feed Saquon Barkley as early and often as possible, and he’ll have a huge chip on his shoulder after all he went through in the offseason, so we shouldn’t expect Daniel Jones to throw the football a lot next season.

As things stand now, it’s hard to envision Beasley making the roster if he doesn’t get back to full strength soon, and that could be a lot to ask from a 34-year-old.
