Austin Reaves just had a breakout season with the Los Angeles Lakers but he’s not taking any time off this summer.

Instead, the young guard is going to represent his home country in the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

Playing for Team USA is a huge opportunity – and a huge honor – for Reaves.

Speaking to SiriusXM NBA Radio, Reaves talked about what it means to be on Team USA.

“It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do. When we got the call, it was something I couldn’t say no to,” he said.

Reaves is looking to leave an imprint on the team and help them find great success in the tournament.

He believes that he can.

He mentioned that he has confidence in himself and his ability to play on such a big stage.

It is still a big honor for someone with such a short career to be given this chance.

Reaves has only been in the NBA for two seasons now but has shown tremendous growth during that time.

In his first year, he was seen as a backup guard who could get hot at certain times, averaging 7.3 points and 1.8 assists a game.

But in his second season, he raised those numbers to 13 points and 3.4 assists.

He also started in a few more games as well, finding great chemistry among other players like LeBron James and Anthony Davis.

By the time the playoffs came around, Reaves said goodbye to his bench role and started in all 16 games the Lakers participated in.

Reaves has become a star in a short amount of time, but can he also become a World Cup champion?
