Popularized by New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone, the phrase “it’s right in front of us” has been used for quite some time now to say that the team, despite its losing ways, still controls its own destiny and has what it takes to revert the situation.
Many fans have grown to despise that phrase because they are inching closer and closer to their first season without the playoffs since 2016 and the first with a losing record since 1992.
At the moment, they are 60-61 after another loss on Wednesday, last in the AL East.
Well, it might not be “right in front of them” anymore as Yankees insider Chris Kirschner tweeted.
“The Yankees currently do not hold their own destiny. Let’s say the standings stay the same. They face the Blue Jays six times. Even if they swept them, they finish a half game short. It’s no longer in front of them. They need help,” he said.

The Blue Jays hold the third and last Wild Card spot in the American League.
Then, the Seattle Mariners and Boston Red Sox follow them.
After those teams, then come the Yankees.
Not only does New York have to worry about the Jays, but they also need to pay close attention to what happens with the M’s and Sox from here to the end of the regular season, not to mention monitoring the Los Angeles Angels and maybe the Cleveland Guardians, too.
The truth is that reaching this point with their record and their current resources represents an enormous disappointment for Yankees fans.
It’s no longer “right in front of them” at this point.
Now, they need to start hoping for teams to fall and for some results to occur.
