The New York Mets effectively punted on the 2023 season at the trade deadline by selling off major pieces such as Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer.
However, New York may not be down for the count for too long.
Top Japanese starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto may be posted this offseason for MLB teams to potentially sign in free agency.
Mets starter Kodai Senga knows a thing or two about Yamamoto and what he brings to the table and hopes that the team will consider bringing him on board when free agency kicks off.
On Twitter, SNY posted a statement from Senga regarding his friend.

Senga says he has known Yamamoto since he was 20 years old.
The right-hander praised Yamamoto for being “an amazing player.”
Senga thinks that the young righty would be a welcome addition to the Mets and that the team would love to have him around.
Though the Mets failed to contend this season on the heels of a 101-win campaign a year ago, going after Yamamoto would signal that the team isn’t quite ready to close the door on contending again in 2024.
New York owns a record of 56-66 after winning their series opener in St. Louis.
Senga himself will take the ball on Saturday.
But a rotation featuring Senga and Yamamoto at the top along with Jose Quintana as a middle-of-the-rotation arm would be tough competition for opposing teams.
Therefore, it might make sense for the Mets to try and bring him on board, especially with Scherzer and Verlander both gone.
