It’s now painfully clear that James Harden has no desire to play with the Philadelphia 76ers anymore.

His relationship with Daryl Morey is ruined and he is now threatening to not attend training camp in a few months.

Harden has his reasons for wanting to depart but there are many questions about them.

NBA legend Reggie Miller was on NBA TV recently, wondering why Harden would want to leave, especially since he’s playing alongside one of the best players in the league in Joel Embiid, via ClutchPoints.

“Joel Embiid was the MVP last year, correct? … Have you ever heard of someone not wanting to play with an MVP? How could someone want out from playing against the reigning MVP?”

Miller said that Harden’s demand is like Jamal Murray asking to be traded away from Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets or Dwyane Wade requesting a trade during his time with LeBron James and the Miami Heat.

It’s not only surprising to Miller, but it also doesn’t make a lot of sense.

There is great confusion around Harden’s request for a number of reasons.

People aren’t sure why he wants to leave a team that is still very much in playoff contention.

They remain just a change or two away from being able to make the Finals, so why would Harden give up on that?

And Miller’s point is a strong one: Who wants to turn away from the reigning MVP?

It seemed like Harden and Embiid had a fairly good working relationship and got along well too.

We may never know what ultimately drove Harden to seek an exit from the Sixers.

But we do know that the entire situation has upset and confused many and spiraled into a huge mess.
