The Pittsburgh Steelers missed the playoffs in 2022, their third time in the past five seasons.

Many pundits have placed great expectations upon this team, given the organization’s rich history of success.

While some have placed the onus upon Kenny Pickett, Jason McCourty discussed the defense’s responsibility on ‘Good Morning Football.’

McCourty named a lot of the Steelers’ defensive stars, saying, “These guys go out there, and they ball.”

The Steelers have been historically known for having great defenses.

McCourty mentioned some of their organization’s best players from the past, including James Harrison and Troy Polamalu.

If this team can play similarly to the Steelers of old, they may be able to break through in 2023.

However, in today’s game, having an elite quarterback is paramount, no matter how good your defense is.

Having a player like Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, and Josh Allen has proven to be essential to a deep playoff push.

Kenny Pickett also has some pressure ahead of this season to lead the offense.

The AFC North will be tough this year, given the roster changes of the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, and Cincinnati Bengals.

While the Bengals have dominated with Joe Burrow at the helm, his status for the upcoming year has been called into question.

This could lead to a slow start for the Bengals, which is the perfect opportunity for the Steelers to make up some ground in the division.

Will their offensive and defensive units be improved enough to give them a fighting chance?
