Anthony Edwards has been perhaps the most important part of the Minnesota Timberwolves for the last few years.

And now he is going to be a central part of a different team: Team USA.

Edwards posted 34 points and helped erase a 16-point deficit against Team Germany on Sunday in the lead-up to the FIBA Basketball World Cup.

His heroic performance not only helped the team complete a 5-0 exhibition game run, but it also confirmed that he’s ready to lead.

Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics recently said he believes this is the start of a great upcoming year for Edwards.

“Ant gone have a big year coming up,” Tatum said on Twitter.

Many people are saying the exact same thing.

Germany is one of the most-feared teams in the World Cup so a win over them, even in an exhibition game, is very important.

Edwards proved that he could be the most dominant player for Team USA and head coach Steve Kerr definitely took note of that.

This means that during the upcoming tournament, Edwards is going to be a focal point of the team’s offense and defense.

A strong World Cup showing could perfectly set Edwards up for a terrific 2023-24.

Fans of the Timberwolves were already expecting a wonderful season from Edwards because he just had a tremendous one in 2022-23.

However, the team still floundered toward the end of the season and barely made the playoffs, where they got pushed out in the opening round.

Perhaps the leadership skills that Edwards is learning with Team USA will help him enhance the Timberwolves in the new year.

If that’s the case, he really could have a “big year.”
