The New Orleans Saints are entering the 2023 season with a changing of the guard.
That is because they signed quarterback Derek Carr in free agency.
While Carr might not be an elite player, he is undoubtedly better than anything the Saints have had since Drew Brees retired.
Now, the Saints hope to work out the kinks in the preseason before the real games start in September.
New Orleans took on the Los Angeles Chargers in their second preseason game on Sunday.
It was a game they won, but Saints head coach Dennis Allen feels there are a lot of things the Saints need to fix.
According to Mike Triplett, Allen said, “there is a ton of crap that needs to be cleaned up.”
Dennis Allen started with some things he liked Sunday (Kendre Miller, takeaways among them). But the 14 penalties didn’t sit well.

Among the many issues for the Saints, Allen pointed to the 14 penalties.
Having that many penalties in any game is terrible.
It is hard to win regular season games when you commit 14 penalties.
But, that is what the preseason is for.
It is not uncommon to see a lot of sloppy play in the preseason.
Mostly because everyone playing in each game is a rookie or young player who still has a lot to learn.
Yet, it still reflects poorly on the whole team when 14 penalties are committed.
New Orleans is set to enter the season as favorites to win the NFC South.
They have the best roster in the division and the most experienced quarterback.
If they are not playing in the postseason it could be due to reasons like we saw in the preseason.
