The Tampa Bay Buccaneers put an end to all speculation and one of the biggest storylines of the offseason.

After months of rumors and reports, the Bucs officially announced that Baker Mayfield would be their QB1 for the upcoming campaign, according to Adam Schefter.

This shouldn’t have been any news or surprising by any means, as he was always supposed to have the edge over Kyle Trask.

Nonetheless, some claimed that the team was having second doubts after watching him struggle in the training camp, up to the point where Colin Cowherd even urged Mayfield to just retire and pursue a career as an analyst if he couldn’t beat Trask for the job.

Needless to say, going from Tom Brady to Baker Mayfield is a major downgrade, with all due respect to Mayfield.

But to be fair, going from Brady to any other quarterback would be a downgrade.

Mayfield hasn’t lived up to the expectations that come with being the No. 1 pick, but it’s not like he can’t play.

He did lead the Cleveland Brown to the playoffs, and while he failed to make the most of Odell Beckham Jr.’s presence there, he looked much better when he played for Sean McVay and the Los Angeles Rams.

The Bucs play in arguably the worst and least competitive division in football, and they still have a plethora of solid weapons in the passing game.

So, even if the fans might not be all that excited right now, they do have enough assets to help Baker get that revenge season once and for all.
