Not so long ago, it seemed like it was just a matter of time before Chris Jones and the Kansas City Chiefs reached an agreement on a new contract.
Fast forward to today, and the star DT has yet to report to the training camp, and there haven’t been many updates about the situation.
Now, Andy Reid has shared some discouraging comments about this, stating that there has been no communication whatsoever with him, and seemingly hinted at being prepared to play without him come Week 1, according to Nate Taylor.
Andy Reid on Chris Jones: “There’s been no communication. … Whatever happens, happens. The game goes on.”

Jones is one of the best defenders in the league.
He’s coming off an outstanding season in which he was one of the biggest candidates to win the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year award.
He’s shared multiple cryptic comments on social media throughout the course of the offseason, and even though he promised to be the best defender in the league in 2023, it seems like he may not even want to take the field at all.
Reid’s comments make it seem like he’s had more than enough with the situation, and the show simply must go on.
Not having Jones anchoring their defense will obviously be a massive blow for the reigning Super Bowl champions.
But the Chiefs were always loud and clear about their desire to do right by their star DT, which is why it’s so hard to understand why they’re so distant in terms of a new contract.
We’ll have to wait and see, but this doesn’t look good at all.
