The Chicago White Sox are, as of Wednesday afternoon, 49-77.

A big-market team with considerably high expectations year after year, the White Sox haven’t won the World Series since 2005 and were not really contenders last year, when they finished with a 81-81 record.

The way they have played this year, however, has raised many concerns about the long-term outlook of the franchise.

Disappointed owner Jerry Reinsdorf announced on Tuesday night that he fired executive vice president Ken Williams and GM Rick Hahn.

It was somewhat of an expected move given the disastrous season the team is having.

What about manager Pedro Grifol?

Grifol was appointed as the skipper before the start of the 2023 campaign.

In these cases, the manager shouldn’t carry most of the blame because he wasn’t the one who built the roster.

Williams and Hahn did.

However, it’s clear 2023 hasn’t been a good year for Grifol.

Is he on the hot seat, too?

MLB insider Bob Nightengale answered that question for fans.

“Chicago White Sox manager Pedro Grifol is safe, and at this moment, is expected to return in 2024,” he tweeted.

White Sox fans are not thrilled about that decision, as Grifol has made some questionable calls.

However, while he obviously has a share of the blame, he shouldn’t rank near Williams and Hahn.

The pair led the White Sox to consecutive playoff appearances in 2020 and 2021.

The team hadn’t made a postseason appearance since 2008, though, and ownership was very disappointed to learn that the White Sox’s window lasted just two seasons.

For now, Grifol’s job is safe.

The owner would probably want to see some progress in 2024, though.
