The Chicago Cubs made perhaps the most significant bargain signing of the offseason last winter when they inked veteran slugger and former National League MVP Cody Bellinger to a one-year, $17.5 million contract.

This year, Bellinger is enjoying a bounce-back campaign with the North Siders, hitting .321 with a total of 20 home runs, 65 RBI, and an OPS of .924.

Bellinger won a Rookie of the Year Award, an MVP, an NLCS MVP Award, and a World Series ring during his time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but he began to taper off towards the end of his Dodgers tenure.

On Twitter, Jesse Rogers of ESPN revealed something important about Bellinger, who spoke about his time in Los Angeles.

“I came back as soon as possible from it, not knowing anything. I never dealt with an injury. I never thought how surgery would really affect me.”

Bellinger revealed that after suffering an injury, he tried to come back from it as quickly as possible, not really knowing much about the long-term effects of doing so.

In turn, Bellinger’s production began to decline.

The star outfielder had undergone surgery, but had still attempted to come back as quickly as possible.

Ultimately, Bellinger believes that because he tried to rush himself back, that caused some issues with his health and his production, which ultimately brought an end to his tenure with the Dodgers.

However, the slugger has bounced back in a big way this year with the Cubs and is back to his old ways.

He is reaching base at a .369 clip while also posting a slugging percentage of .555.

The Cubs are also now in the second Wild Card spot in the National League, with just over a month to go in the regular season.
