Anyone who has followed the 2023 Philadelphia Phillies season closely knows that Trea Turner hasn’t been as good as expected.

The team paid $300 million to lure him to Philadelphia, and he has a .251/.303/.401 line with a .703 OPS.

Granted, he also has 14 home runs and 22 stolen bases, but that OPS is the lowest since he was a rookie.

However, and despite his struggles, Philly fans showed him their love and support on August 4 during a home game.

They gave him a standing ovation to show him that they loved him anyway.

That seemed to do the trick if we go to the evidence.

“Since August 4 when Phillies fans gave Trea Turner a standing ovation in an attempt to turn his struggles around, Turner’s hitting .353 with a 1.007 OPS. Over that span, he leads the team in hits (24), doubles (6), and total bases (42),” Jared Carrabis tweeted.

Not only did he pay for an ad to thank Philadelphia fans for their gesture, but he is also waking up with the bat at the most opportune time.

As Carrabis points out, he leads the team in several offensive categories since the special moment at Citizens Bank Park.

Perhaps the unconditional support allowed Turner to relax a bit at the plate and let his talent do the talking, or maybe it inspired him to work harder to be great.

We don’t know the exact effect, but we do know there has been an effect.

That much is evident.

Turner has vast postseason experience, contact, power, speed, good defense, style, and many other attributes.

It was about time he showed Philadelphia fans what he is capable of doing.
