Over the past couple of years, Anthony Edwards has been one of the stars on the rise in the NBA while trying to help turn things around for the Minnesota Timberwolves alongside fellow star Karl-Anthony Towns.
Every year, Edwards has improved his game and become more of a household name among avid NBA fans, and this year, he decided to take it to another level once again by joining Team USA to play in the FIBA World Cup later this month.
Although Team USA has only played exhibition games up to this point in the summer, Edwards has stood out as the team’s undisputed leader and best player for head coach Steve Kerr.
In a recent interview with Complex Sports, Edwards explained why he chose to play for Team USA, and points to some of the best players in basketball history also sporting the red, white, and blue at some point during their playing careers.
Anthony Edwards is playing for Team USA to follow in the footsteps of legends before him.
“I just wanted to play in it because Kobe played in it. Michael Jordan played in it… Those the best players so, gotta do what they do.” pic.twitter.com/599L4pPoqW

Obviously, Edwards is a bit of a basketball historian, as he wants to follow in the footsteps of some of the best of the best to ever do it, like Los Angeles Lakers icon Kobe Bryant and Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan.
Those are some huge shoes to fill, and Edwards will attempt to fill them as the leader of Team USA, as he’s giving it everything he’s got with his sights set on a gold medal.
Edwards and company will get back to work on August 26 when they take on New Zealand in the Philippines.
