The Washington Commanders recently announced Sam Howell as their starting quarterback.

While this didn’t come as a shock to many fans, it was announced earlier than many expected.

The Commanders brought in Jacoby Brissett during the offseason, signing him to a one-year deal.

At the very least, he was expected to fight for the starting role but is now relegated to Howell’s backup.

In a recent press conference shared via Pro Football Talk, Ron Rivera said, “I’m pretty comfortable, pretty confident, and I look forward to seeing it.”

Howell has impressed throughout training camp, and his play during preseason games has impressed many across the league.

Early in the offseason, many pundits expected Howell to falter, and that he wasn’t ready for NFL action.

He has dispelled all of these rumors and is ready to prove his doubters wrong.

Rivera continued to double down on the team’s decision, indicating that any questions that he had about Howell’s abilities had now been answered.

Howell is joined on the Commanders offense by several young pieces.

The team has surrounded him with the likes of Jahan Dotson, Terry McLaurin, Antonio Gibson, and Brian Robinson.

All of these athletes are highly regarded.

With any luck, Howell has all of the necessary tools around him to perform well as the Commanders’ full-time starter.

Brissett is waiting in the wings in case he has any shortcomings, but the team’s commitment to Howell appears strong.

Can the Commanders’ new look offense hold up to what is now a strong NFC East?
