The San Francisco 49ers are trying to put the pieces in place to return to their third straight NFC Championship Game.

To do so they need all of their best players to be on the field.

One player that has yet to report to training camp is reigning Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa.

He is holding out of camp in hopes of receiving a new contract.

As you can assume, Bosa is looking to be the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL.

This holdout is not something 49ers GM John Lynch is happy about.

According to KNBR, Lynch said, “I don’t like the situation. Since our tenure here we haven’t had a holdout anywhere towards this magnitude.”

John Lynch on Nick Bosa still not being signed:

“I don’t like the situation. Since our tenure here we haven’t had a holdout anywhere towards this magnitude. Not something I’m comfortable with. We’re working really hard to change that…eager to bring this thing to a close.”

Last season, Bosa recorded 18.5 sacks and had 19 tackles for loss.

He is one of the game’s great disruptors.

San Francisco has arguably the top defense in the NFL.

But without Bosa that may not be the case.

As we continue to inch closer to the season more and more pressure is on Lynch to get a deal done.

Trying to play “hardball” with one of your best players is not a strategy that usually works out.

But, the 49ers are a well-run team because they always know how to take care of their own.

The 49ers are once again expected to be a top team in the league.

The only real question about their team is the quarterback position.

It appears Brock Purdy has been given the starting job.

Last season, he snuck up on the league as a seventh-round pick.

But, everyone will be prepared for a second year of Purdy and find ways to slow him down.

It would make sense if Purdy came back down to Earth this year.

That is why having a great roster around him including Bosa is so important.
