Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has made big strides in his development.

The young NBA shooting guard is coming off his first All-Star season, and it didn’t take long before he proved why he was the rightful No. 1 pick in his class.

That’s why he wasn’t cool with coming off the bench for Team USA if it came down to it.

He recently admitted to Joe Vardon of The Athletic that coach Steve Kerr called him out and told him that Dwyane Wade agreed to come off the bench when they had Kobe Bryant.

Edwards, true to form, simply responded that they don’t have a Kobe right now (via NBACentral).

“He said Dwyane Wade came off the bench when Kobe played. I was like, ‘all right, we don’t have a Kobe.’”

That kind of competitive drive and utter confidence in his game is one of the reasons why he’s been able to break out in the league.

Edwards talks a lot of trash and has always been quite high about himself, but he makes sure to back it up on the court every single time he’s out there.

Likewise, he often looks to lead by example and holds his teammates to the very same standard he holds himself, and that’s everything you can ask of a young leader.

Edwards is still a work in progress as a defender, and it might take him a while before he gets there.

But there’s no denying that he has the potential to be one of the best — if not the best — scorers in the league in no time, and this summer with Team USA will only boost his development.
