For the first time in what seems like forever, the Detroit Lions have high hopes, not to mention lots of hype surrounding them.

They’re the overwhelming favorites to finish first in the NFC North this season, and while they don’t appear to be legitimate Super Bowl contenders, they could have something to say about how the race for the Super Bowl turns out.

One man who is high on the Lions right now is former NBA superstar and Turner Sports personality Charles Barkley, who also happens to be a big football fan.

Barkley says he has high hopes for the Lions because of Dan Campbell, their head coach.

Last season, nothing good was expected from the Lions, especially after their slow start.

But they then ripped off eight wins in their last 10 games, and they came within a nibble or two of making the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Detroit has a Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback in Jared Goff, who had one of the best seasons of his career so far in 2022.

Amon-Ra St. Brown is a rising young wide receiver who made the Pro Bowl and put up 1,161 yards and six touchdowns last season, and they’re hopeful that first-round draft pick Jahmyr Gibbs will turn into a solid running back.

The Lions finished fifth in points and fourth in total yards last season, and while their defense had major problems, defensive lineman Aidan Hutchinson is coming off a strong rookie season, and they have added stud cornerback Cameron Sutton.

This could perhaps be the year in which they win their first playoff game since the 1991 season.
