With the San Francisco 49ers listing Trey Lance as their third-string quarterback, teams like the Dallas Cowboys jumped at the chance to add a young player to their roster on the cheap.

Although teams like the Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens, and Detroit Lions were reportedly in on Lance, the Cowboys won the sweepstakes by offering a 2024 fourth-round pick.

Lance never got the chance to truly show he was worth the starting quarterback job in San Francisco due to injuries, so landing in Dallas represents a fresh start and a better opportunity to compete for a role.

However, Lance may need to wait longer for his turn as the team is already set with Dak Prescott under center for the 2023 season.

Prescott has been impressive with the Cowboys when healthy but his durability will always remain a question mark for an organization that is desperate to get back to the Super Bowl.

When asked about his reaction to the Lance trade, Prescott admitted he didn’t expect it via Adam Rossow of Spectrum News 1 Texas.

In the clip, Prescott adds that he is no longer surprised by anything that happens in the NFL because of how many years he’s been in the league.

The comments sparked some speculation that he may not be happy with the move, though he surely understands that Dallas will do what it feels is in its best interest.

Prescott’s job as the starter is not in doubt by any means, though it’ll be interesting to see what the Cowboys’ plan for Lance is.
